In this collection are some of the most dynamic and arresting images ever committed to print as wartime ‘advertising’, or, more accurately, ‘propaganda’. As with the military recruitment ads in another section, here are to be found some lurid graphics exhorting us to beware an enemy who will stop at nothing to conquer, and who must be stopped at all costs, as well as the more humble Home Front advice on how best to cook for the family with a limited supply of food. The two big wars of the 20th century produced an astonishing number of posters on all sides of the conflict, from the famous ‘What did you do in the war, Daddy’ to the more obscure, political posters of the USSR. Many more to come in this section.
