A collection of colourful adverts that tempted the early car buyer with all sorts of wonderful designs, performance stats and good looks, or just with a cheap deal on a family saloon. With the rise of the motor car as a desirable possession or status symbol, and one that was ever more affordable, car advertising easily kept pace with the demand. It is still going strong, although the marques have all changed with the virtual demise of the British motor (and motorcycle) industry. Now they all look the same. But not here: here are some quirky cars and some equally quirky adverts. How often do you see a submarine conning tower in a car ad, for instance, or an armed robber being chased by the car that’s being advertised (here)? And what on earth is going on here ?
