The heady days of the great patriotic cruise ships, the big liners, the Blue Riband, etc. are all long gone; those visions of another world have now been replaced by eyesores of enormous floating hotels that will not, in our view, make sought-after advertisement posters in years to come. Here are elegant ships full of elegant people, going places that most folk fly to now; gone is the leisurely steamer to the East Indies, gone the bustling passenger ports in every nook and cranny of the coastline, gone the dreams of small boys of faraway places or a life of thrills and spills at sea. These timeless and beautiful images bring it back, and remind us that life then seemed to be so much more stylish for those who could afford it.
